Upcoming Classic Movies Series: Great Actresses Of The Silver Screen

I'm excited to announce that I'll be introducing two films this April at Clark College. The series features five classics with wonderful actresses. You can learn more about the specifics at this Mature Learning webpage and register if you're interested.

"My" films are Taming of the Shrew with Elizabeth Taylor on April 16th and It Happened One Night with Claudette Colbert on April 30th. I'm having fun preparing a short slideshow for each. Such glamour and talent!

If you have any suggestions of things I should include, feel free to comment. But with these women's lives as rich as they are, I don't think I'll be hard pressed to find material....

Thanks for stopping by my blog, I have left a comment there about the disappearance of the Colonel for you.
I guessed that you are a teacher or educator as you are so articulate. :)

I will try and visit here more often, sometimes I get snowed under with other obligations.

I really enjoyed that movie 'Taming of the Shrew', great performances from Burton and Taylor; I recently bought the DVD.

I have most likely seen the other movie as well, there have been some great actors and movies from the era of black & white films.♡

Women as shrew as seen by men. How do women see women?

Thanks, Dianne! Your posts are so lovely, especially the art ones. I love Shrew too. Bet you have seen It Happened One Night - it is a real classic.

lakeviewer - good question. This play presents a lot of problems for modern viewers. I've definitely seen some women behave like shrews. (We won't mention the times I've glimpsed one in the mirror.) There's a neat book out that examines the issue, Better a Shrew Than a Sheep - check out http://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/cup_detail.taf?ti_id=3887 for details.

I took film analysis in Germany. I love watching old films and going through them. We didn't do these two particular ones, but they look like they have a lot in them for lively discussion!
